Baggage Allowance

Carry-on Baggage

The carry-on baggage allowance depends on the travel class and also on the status of your Mileage Plus membership card.

In general, a passenger is allowed to carry one piece of baggage along with one personal item without any charge. However, if you’re traveling Basic Economy, then you’ll be allowed to carry along only one personal item and no other piece of baggage. An exception is made for Basic Economy passengers flying on trans-Atlantic flights and for the ones who are Premier® members or primary card members with a qualifying Mileage Plus credit card.

Please note that if you’re traveling by Basic Economy and don’t fall under the above mentioned criteria, and bring along a full-sized piece of baggage with you, then you would need to book that piece of baggage as checked baggage and it would require you to pay a checked baggage fee in addition to $25 gate handling charges. The dimensions of the carry-on baggage can’t exceed 9 x 14 x 22 in. The dimensions of the personal item can’t be more than 9 x 10 x 17 in. Also, you should be able to fit it under the seat in front of you.

Keep these rules and regulations in mind while packing your bags after making United Airlines flight reservations.

Checked Baggage

The linear dimension of the checked baggage should not exceed 62 in.

The checked baggage weight limit for United Economy passengers is 50 lbs.

The checked baggage weight limit for United Business, United First and United Polaris® business class passengers is 70 lbs.

For passengers traveling by connecting flights, United Airlines will check the bags to the final destination mentioned on the flight ticket. This is another convenient perk that you get to enjoy when you book United Airlines flight tickets. For this rule to be applicable, your connecting flight needs to depart within 12 hours of your arrival at the airport.

In order to avoid any snags on the day of your travel, make sure that you’re familiar with the updated version of United Airlines’ Baggage Allowance rules and regulations.
